David Lim (MBA, MSW) is a skilled, focused and dynamic coach. His diverse education, training, and 20 years of experience working with different populations in change psychology, communication, clinical counseling, media leadership, education, and motivational problem solving has helped him develop his core coaching belief
““Coaching is for everyone,” he says. “It’s not just for those who can afford it …or for those who are considered 'higher value,' because they can financially commit three, four, six months ahead of time."
David provided clinical counseling and coaching for several agencies in Southern California. He was a communication officer for a $50 million funding agency, and served as a non-profit agency director David has also held four marketing and communication leadership roles (three as director, one as manager) in Los Angeles, Orange County, and Seattle. He also taught a social policy course at the University of Southern California, coached sports, music, and was a private tutor. He enjoys keeping in shape and remaining active. He is completing his first book.
He holds degrees from Purdue University (BS and BA) and graduate degrees from the University of Southern California (MSW) and the University of California, Irvine (MBA). David is currently a therapist in Seattle, trained in a change and motivational psychological approach that is the basis of the coaching profession. He is also a writer and served as a print and television journalist in Washington D.C. He also served as a senior writer for a top political consulting firm for one year.
David says it has been the opportunities to experience, endure, and exploit learning lessons from a diversity of challenges and failures that makes it easier to be open to a diversity of clients. Those lessons include divorce and depression, financial hardship, professional failure and anxiety, loss, grief, and disappointment.
“Sometimes holding a person high is about a swift kick to get them out of a rut, pointing out faulty assumptions or distorted thinking,” David says. “Sometimes it is about assigning tough homework or difficult stretches, maybe even a little advising or teaching. Sometimes it means being a nag and a pest ... but sometimes holding a person high is none of those things.
“At times, you can't simply just ask an open ended question about a client's 'way of being' or 'what's missing.' Sometimes it’s simply about listening, comforting and being there as a friend."
David’s life contract: “I am a charismatic, compassionate and empowering leader.”

David gets what will work for you. Sometimes, the path to what you want is not the road you planned to take, but David listens well and will help guide you to the goal and the life you seek. From the moment I met David, I felt so comfortable and that allowed me to be open and trusting. That trust has helped me to see different perspectives...and get to the bottom line of how to get what I want! Wendee Bresee, Actress/Singer/Dancer
He knows what I need and when … sometimes when I need a kind, listening ear or a shoulder to cry on, there he is … but then he knows when I need a good kick in the rear. But most importantly, I know he cares and that motivates me to get what it is that I want Cynthia Le, Investment Banker
He is able to help me see opportunities and possibilities that already exist in my own life. He uses each person’s own grit and own personality, in his coaching …he makes me laugh when I need to, he becomes cheerleader when I need it, and he becomes very focused with me, when I need that too.
